Jay-Z Concert Cancelled In Wake Of Drake
The Big Apple may be the “Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made Of,” but it’s no longer the ideal city to take in a free concert. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has pulled the plug on a scheduled performance by Jay-Z above the marquee at Manhattan’s Ed Sullivan Theater over security concerns.
Monday’s show – which would have been hosted by the Late Show With David Letterman — has been scrapped on the heels of a riot that ensued when between 15,000-20,000 shouting, shoving fans convened at Manhattan’s South Street Seaport for a free concert featuring Drake and Hanson. The crowd got out of control, leaving dozens injured, after news of the show leaked online ahead of scheduled. Jay-Z’s show was also meant to be a secret, but word leaked Thursday and the Mayor’s office has canned the appearance to prevent another potential riot.read more
